Welcome To NEUROPLAY

NeuroPlay is a specialist online therapeutic play service using digital play as a clinical medium. For children aged 10–16 across the UK, we create a safe, engaging digital space where meaningful therapeutic work happens — naturally, on their terms. ** NOTE This Service is only available online

Why digital play works therapeutically

Therapy, Healing & Growth Through Digital Play

🏗️ A digital sandtray - Children build representations of their inner world — feelings, relationships, and experiences through creative construction

🛡️ Low-threat environment - Creative Mode removes consequences, giving the child complete control and psychological safety to explore difficult material

🔗 Natural engagement - For children who resist traditional therapy, a familiar digital world removes the artificiality of the therapy room

🌍 Private and secure - A dedicated realm shared only between clinician and child, no other players, no external access

Clinically supported. Professionally recognised

BACP · British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy - "Using Minecraft therapeutically has proven highly effective in engaging children, young people, and adults in counselling sessions, especially those who are neurodivergent or experience social anxiety."

University of Cambridge · AHRC-funded research. "The Bridging the ChASM project explores how therapeutic video games can create more inclusive, accessible mental health support for children and young people."

“Journal of Family Therapy · 2025  "An 11-year-old with autism spectrum disorder showed significant improvement in depression symptoms following Minecraft therapy sessions."

WHO IS IT FOR?

Right for children who need a different approach

Neuro Play works especially well for children where traditional talking therapy hasn't quite landed, or where engagement is the first hurdle.

🧠 Neurodivergent children - Children with ADHD, autism, or other neurodevelopmental profiles who find the social demands of traditional therapy difficult. The Minecraft environment reduces threat and provides structure on the child's own terms.

😰 Anxiety and social difficulty - Children experiencing anxiety, social confidence difficulties, or school-related stress. Working through a screen and within a game reduces the performance pressure that face-to-face therapy can create.

🔄 Transition and change - Children navigating significant transitions — secondary school, family change, bereavement, or identity questions. The Minecraft world becomes a space to process and make sense of change at their own pace.

💬 Resistant to talking therapy - Children who have tried and disengaged from traditional counselling. For young people who "don't want to talk about it," working through play removes that barrier entirely.

🎮 Gaming-engaged children - Children for whom gaming is already a significant part of their world. Meeting them in that space creates immediate rapport and reduces the time spent establishing a working relationship.

❤️ Emotional regulation - Children struggling to identify, express, or manage emotions. The indirect nature of play-based work makes emotional material more accessible without requiring the child to name it directly.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Delivered entirely online. Available everywhere.

NeuroPlay is online-only by design. That means a child in Edinburgh, Bristol, or Belfast can access the same specialist therapeutic support as one in our home city. No travel, no waiting rooms, no geographic barrier to getting the right help.

What children develop through NeuroPlay

Therapeutic Outcomes

NeuroPlay sessions are clinically structured around measurable therapeutic goals, not open-ended gaming.

🧩 Emotional literacy - Naming, understanding, and communicating feelings with greater confidence

⚖️ Self-regulation - Developing practical strategies for managing big emotions and overwhelm

🤝Social confidence - Building authentic relationships and practising social skills in a safe space

🔍Self-understanding - Developing a clearer, more compassionate sense of identity and personal strengths

💪Anxiety reduction - Reducing anxiety and building coping strategies that work in everyday life

NeuroPlay connects into
a complete support journey

We keep communication completely secure by using trusted, encrypted platforms (like Zoom or Microsoft Teams) for our voice calls while we play. To maintain strict client confidentiality, all individual worlds are kept completely separate, password-protected, and identified only by a secure code on our system.

MineCraft

Ages 10 - 14

Our Minecraft sessions harness the power of complete creative control and problem-solving. Whether your teenager is exploring vast landscapes or building a shared structure from the ground up, the game provides an immediate boost to their executive functioning, and communication skills. Facing fears becomes tangible as we prepare for in-game challenges together, teaching them how to assess risk and manage anxiety in a safe environment. Because the game allows us to build, modify, or completely reset our surroundings, it offers a powerful visual lesson: no matter what setbacks occur, we always have the tools and the capacity to rebuild.

Stardew Valley

Ages 12 - 16

In our Stardew Valley sessions, the farm serves as a beautiful, low-stress metaphor for a teenager's real life. Together, we manage daily routines, learn to budget time, and closely monitor our character's "energy bar"—sparking vital conversations about emotional burnout, self-care, and real-life balance. Whether we are rebuilding the local community center, learning how different village characters require different personal boundaries, or navigating the anxiety of exploring the local mines, every in-game task acts as a safe rehearsal space for managing real-world stress and building resilience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need to be good at minecraft? : Not at all. Most children aged 10–14 have some familiarity with Minecraft, but no prior experience is needed. The therapeutic value comes from the creative and expressive process — not gameplay skill. Your practitioner will guide your child through the environment at their own pace.

What equipment does my child need? : A device that can run Minecraft (PC, laptop, tablet, or console) and a reliable internet connection. Your practitioner will walk you through the specific technical setup during the initial parent consultation, it's simpler than it sounds.

Does my child need a diagnosis to access NeuroPlay? : No. NeuroPlay is open to all children aged 10–14 regardless of whether they have a diagnosis. Many children who benefit most have no formal diagnosis — they simply need a different therapeutic approach to the one that has been available to them.

How are parents involved in the sessions? : Parents are not present during sessions, this protects the child's therapeutic space and confidentiality. However, parents receive a brief check-in update after each session and are invited to a mid-point and end-of-programme review.

How many sessions will my child need? : Most NeuroPlay programmes run for 6–12 sessions, reviewed at the halfway point. Some children benefit from a shorter focused piece of work; others continue for longer. Your practitioner will discuss this with you at the initial consultation based on your child's presenting needs.

A Note To Those
Who Are Still Wondering

If you have read this far and you are sitting with a question about yourself, or about someone you love, we want to say this directly:

Your experience is real. The difficulty you have felt is real. The exhaustion of performing neurotypicality in a world that was not designed for you is real. And the question you are carrying, however long you have been carrying it, deserves a proper answer.

You do not have to have certainty before you start. You do not have to have a clear idea of what you are looking for. You just have to be willing to find out.

NeuroVerify is here when you are ready.
